Teen Bookend Art

Turn ordinary bookends into works of art for the Library shelves. Students will work with acrylic paint to give the book holders an all new look! Snacks will fuel the student artists. For grades 5 and up.

Annual Charles H. Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities
Monday, May 16

Monday, May 16. The 30th Annual Hackley Lecture will take place on Monday, May 16, 7:30 p.m., in the Muskegon Museum of Art Auditorium. David M. Turner, a Broadway general manager and founder of the Adirondack Theatre Festival, will speak on “Getting Out of the House: The Importance of the Arts in Our Communities.” Turner, who attended North Muskegon schools and now lives in Manhattan, has managed many successful Tony-winning plays. Recent credits include The Book of Mormon, God of Carnage, Fences, Lend Me a Tenor, and Jerusalem. The Hackley Lecture honors someone with ties to Muskegon who has distinguished himself or herself in the humanities. The lecture is free and open to the public. The Charles Hackley Commendation for Service to the Humanities will be awarded to Larry W. Hines, president and Board chairperson of Hines Corporation. A reception will take place afterward at Hackley Public Library. The lecture will be followed by a reception at Hackley Public Library at approximately 9:00 pm.
