What is Philanthropy

6:00 PM, Monday, December 1
Philanthropy
is synonymous with American history, principles, and culture; yet it
remains an evolving and largely misunderstood topic. What is Philanthropy? seeks to enhance our understanding of philanthropy and its role in American culture and society.
This
film takes a holistic view of this important subject by presenting its
historical context with contemporary issues and including various
perspectives from a wide variety of stakeholders.
Through
multiple formats, this film targets the general public as well as
students in K-12 classrooms and higher education institutions throughout
the United States. The power of visual learning is well documented by
research, and this film will serve as a tool that teachers, professors
and instructors of all types can use to holistically convey what role
philanthropy plays in our lives. Footage is shot from all regions of the
United States, and it presents multiple viewpoints and perspectives
from a broad array of participants.
A Thought Provoking Films Production 2013
Salvatore Alaimo, the director, will present the film at HPL and field questions afterwards. Dr. Alaimo is an Assistant Professor in the School of Public, Nonprofit and Health Administration at Grand Valley State University. |

Dave Hardin Band

6:00 PM, Monday, December 8
The Hackley Public Library is pleased to announce the next
performance in its monthly concert series. This month we are featuring
the gifted singer/songwriter, Dave Hardin and his band. The show is set
for Monday, December 8, 2014. Dave Hardin's talent perhaps is best
described with these words: “His voice is striking – craggy and
weathered, just right for the lyrical scenarios of small towns, lonely
highways, and rural routes…his songs have an earthy elegance that warms
the soul.”- Curtis Ross, Tampa Tribune
    Sometimes
fueled by real emotion, or a glimpse of everyday events, but always
looking for how the story might continue, or sometimes sadly end, his
songs are a slice of real life. His voice is instantly recognizable; it
gets in your bones and makes you feel part of the story, part of the
song. His style of playing is full and rich, notes, chords and
percussion all from his guitar.
    Dave
Hardin is one of those rare talents that comes along and captures you
as a fan for life, and sometimes you swear the songs are from your life.
 They just might be.
