Hiroya Tsukamoto6:00 pm, Monday, July 10Japanese guitarist and songwriter Hiroya Tsukamoto takes us on an innovative, impressionistic journey filled with earthy, organic soundscapes that impart a mood of peace and tranquility.Hiroya Tsukamoto is a guitarist and composer from Kyoto, Japan. He began playing banjo when he was thirteen years old. In 2000, he received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music and came to the US. Since then, he has been performing internationally, including several appearances with his group at the Blue Note in New York, and he has released five albums. Hiroya developed a unique acoustic music which is described as "New folkloric music". He recently performed on Japanese National TV. (NHK-TV). "...chops, passion and warmth. Zealously recommended!"-Jazz Review.com "Hiroya Tsukamoto takes us to an impressionistic journey"-Boston Herald "Hiroya Tsukamoto immediately impressed the audience with his technical prowess on the guitar. Then as the concert progressed, he also revealed himself to be a skilled songwriter, a poetic spirit, and an engaging story teller. With a stage presence that is both humble and confident, Hiroya is a generous performer who won every heart in the house." -Gordon Peery / Monadnock Center for History and Culture (Peterborough, NH) "What an honor to have Hiroya Tsukamoto share his music with us. He has a gentle way about him, and it comes out in his music. His singing is experimental at times; using a percussive sound or whispers. He has developed his own guitar style (banjo inspired); a combination of fingerpicking, Spanish, folk, jazz, accompaniment to his voice. A poem of his was read by a woman in the audience, the words were passed out to everyone to read along; a nice way to involve the listeners." -D.
