BATS IN THE LIBRARY 2:00 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 Meet bats from across the world and learn why these wonderful animals are so important to ecosystems, and to you! You will meet four bats from across the globe, including the species of bat the book Stellaluna was based on!

Matthew Ball-The Boogie Woogie Kid 6:00 pm, Monday, September 11 Matthew Ball, Boogie-Woogie Pianist returns to grace our stage.  The Holland Sentinel says, "Matthew Ball is one of Michigan's premier blues & boogie-woogie pianists!"  With a performance history spanning jazz fests to symphony appearances throughout the Mid-west and Canada, as well as recent appearances on NPR's "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition"  Matthew has been described as a "rising giant in the field." Remarkably Ball's start in Jazz only began in 2001 after he attended a hometown boogie-woogie festival.  He was so awestruck by the performances he saw that night, he left his career as an attorney to become a blues & boogie-woogie performing artist.  With a lot of time, work, and effort over the next few years Ball would reach a breakthrough in 2005 with a career launching performance at the exclusive Arches Piano Stage in Cincinnati where he shared the stage with some of the same musicians that first inspired him to play back in 2001. MONTHLY MAKERS - EXPLODING ARTWORK AT THE FARMERS' MARKET 9:00 - 11:00 SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 Hackley Public Library is kicking off Monthly Makers:  a new program where we explore STEAM topics like Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. This month we are partnering with the MMA to create unique explosions of art with an alkaseltzer tablet and paint inside of a film canister                                                         Exploding Artwork is a drop-in activity from 9 am to 11 am, but we'll take a break for a quick storytime at 10 am. Meet us downtown at the Muskegon Farmers' Market for this fun lesson in art and chemistry!

This weeks' topic--Intro to Computers:  Intro to computers will offer an introduction to what a computer is and how to use it.  It is designed for beginners with little or no knowledge of computers.  Topics covered will include an explanation of Windows and files, how to turn on a computer, and how to use the mouse.

Tech Tuesday 12:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 19 Reserve your 30 minute appointment to have your computer/tech questions answered by our in-house IT people. We will answer questions on using computers and apps-anything from how to navigate Windows to how to upload pictures to Facebook.  Call 231-722-8012 at least 24 hours in advance to reserve your spot.  By appointment only, walk-in spots will not be available.
