Friday, February 9 from 5:00 to 8:00:  Presale party with wine and chocolate.  $10 donation.  

The Annual Bling Thing returns this February.  This is always a fun event and a chance to get yourself some new bling!
Donations of costume, vintage or other jewelry accepted at the Hackley Public Library any time.  We also other "sparkly" things such as scarves, purses and hats.
All the money raised goes to support adult and childrens programs at HPL.

THIRD ANNUAL SWEET SOUL FOOD DESSERT CONTEST FEBRUARY 10, SATURDAY, 2:00 Get your recipes out and find your best soul food dessert. Compete for the best in the city. Bring enough for judges and the attendees to taste. We'll have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place judged by executive chef Megan Gorsticki, plus a People's Choice Award. Do you know grandma's secret recipes? Are they the best you ever had? Then hurry and enter the Hackley Public Library's Black History Dessert Contest where adults and children can enter for a chance to win extraordinary prizes. Get out your recipe files! GIRLS WHO CODE FEBRUARY 12, MONDAY, 5:30-6:30 Hackley Public Library is excited to launch a coding club just for girls! We are an official host site for the international Girls Who Code organization. The club is open to students grade 6 and up. In the club, girls will master the basics of coding like loops, variables, functions, and conditionals to name a few. We will meet every Monday evening starting in January through the end of May. Registration is required. Please register online at hackleylibrary.org or by calling 231-722-8014.

Movies @ the Library 5:30 pm, Tuesday, February 13 Come to the library to see movies on the first Tuesday of the month.  Bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.  This month we'll be screening Hidden Figures.   “As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. "I LOVE BOOKS" VALENTINE'S DAY STORYTIME FEBRUARY 14, WEDNESDAY, 10:30 We're moving our normal storytime to Valentine's Day! We're excited to have a special guest reader:  Justin Jennings--Superintendent of Muskegon Public Schools. He will share with us his favorite books and love of reading. Don't forget to stay for a special craft!

AWARDS CEREMONY FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH CALENDAR AND COLORING CONTESTS FEBRUARY 24, SATURDAY, 2:00 You submitted your best artwork, and we chose the winners! Find out if you won at our awards ceremony. Then stay to listen to In the Tradition, a great jazz band from Detroit performing for the whole family. Refreshments will be provided.

In the Tradition Jazz Ensemble 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 24 In The Tradition began in Detroit in the early 1990's when 5 members of the Neal Henry Septet formed the Christopher James/Charles Hopkins Quintet.  Over the years they became In the Tradition and found their calling.  Through the works of In The Tradition they “seek to educate listeners around the world about the African story, and hook the culturally disenfranchised members of the 'Diaspora' back into their heritage, laying on them [the] ensemble's refined expression of African-American classical music, in as authentic a presentation as they can muster.” (Matt Ward, Detroit Jazz Magazine, 10-16-13) “This band's métier is straight-ahead Jazz, unplugged and resplendent in all its acoustic simplicity and textural earthiness, and underpinned by rhythms inspired by all parts of the far-flung reaches of the African Diaspora”...Matt Ward, Detroit Jazz Magazine, 10-16-13.
