Computer Class- Basic Intro to Computers 10:30 am- 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 2 Intro to Computers: Basic Intro to computers will offer an introduction to what a computer is and how to use it. It is designed for beginners with little or no knowledge of computers. Topics covered will include an explanation of Windows and files, how to turn on a computer, and how to use the mouse. De'ondra Pentecost will teach computer classes on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. Registration is required. Call HPL at 231-722-8011 or visit HPL Events to register. 2018 Michigan Notable Book Author "Harborless" - A Collection of Poems Informed by Great Lakes Shipwrecks  6:00 - 7:00PM, Monday, June 4 2018 Michigan Notable Book author Cindy Hunter Morgan will be visiting HPL to give a reading on her book Harborless. From Wayne State University Press: Harborless, a collection of poems informed by Great Lakes shipwrecks, is part history and part reinvention. The poems explore tragic wrecks in rivers and lakes, finding and forming artistic meaning from destruction and death. Each poem begins in a real, historical moment that Cindy Hunter Morgan transforms into an imagined truth. The imaginative element is essential to this work as it provides a previously unseen glimpse into the lives affected by shipwrecks. The poems in Harborless confront the mysteries surrounding the objects that cover the floor of the Great Lakes by both deepening our understanding of the unknown and teaching great empathy for a life most of us will never know. In addition to winning the Michigan Notable Book Award, Harborless won the 2017 Moveen Prize in Poetry. Don't miss this intriguing program with Cindy Hunter Morgan. Event Calendar

Crafting Yarn Flowers 6:00 - 7:00 pm, Monday, June 4 Springtime is crafting time at Hackley Public Library!  This crafting session will give you the chance to make your own collection of yarn flowers, as well as decorate a vase for your newly made bouquet. Your flowers will adorn your springtime months, and carry on through summer!  Everyone is welcome! Supplies will be provided, so join us for an evening of making yarn flowers! Book Buzz 3:30 - 4:30 pm, Wednesday, June 6 Come hear what other book lovers recommend & chat about your own favorite reads! This isn't your standard Book Club - Book Buzz has a laid back atmosphere for all to enjoy. Everyone welcome, and coffee is provided, so come on by! MONTHLY MAKERS:  SCRATCH CODING SATURDAY, JUNE 9, 2:00 Registration is required. Curious about computer coding but don't know where to start? Start with Scratch! We'll lead you through a basic overview of Scratch--a programming language and online community developed by MIT. Adam Miller 6:00 PM, Monday, June 11 One of the premier autoharpists in the world, Adam Miller is a renowned American folksinger and natural-born storyteller. Miller accompanies his rich, resonant baritone voice with lively finger-picking acoustic guitar and stunningly beautiful autoharp melodies. Being a performer who enlightens and entertains, he points out fascinating connections between events in history and the songs that survived them, skillfully interweaving folksongs and their stories. From the Great Lakes of North America, this program will give an array of traditional folksongs and ballads about shanty boys, freshwater sailors, miners, log drivers, and lake freighters!  Miller has distinguished himself as one of the great interpreters of American folksongs and folktales, appealing to audiences of all ages. As an accomplished folklorist, he performs over 200 concerts annually, and has now amassed a remarkable repertoire of over 5,000 songs! Hackley Public Library is thrilled to have Adam Miller perform, and we hope you can join us for this spectacular event! Adult Summer Reading Program at Hackley Public Library June 12 - August 24 Rock out and read this summer by joining HPL's 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program! Teens (high school age) and adults welcome! For each library book you read or listen to (print books, eBooks, audiobooks), you can submit an entry to win a prize. Various prize packages are available to submit entries to. The more books you read, the better chances you have of winning! Everyone who signs up is entered into the Grand Prize, which includes 4 one-day passes to Michigan's Irish Music Festival! Adult Summer Reading sign-up begins Tuesday, June 12, so get ready to enjoy some good reads this summer!

'Left to Write' Creative Writing at HPL 4:00 PM, Wednesday, June 13 Do you enjoy creative writing? Are you inspired by innovative thoughts and ideas? Become a part of 'Left to Write', HPL’s own Creative Writing Group! Here you can share your own stories, participate in exercises, and meet other creative writers. This group will provide a low key atmosphere for writers of all experiences. Everyone is welcome, so feel free to tell your friends! Bring your own paper, and your favorite pen!
