Are Your Beaches Safe?

Are Your Beaches Safe?: From the RedTape Blog: "Here is how to find out whether your local beach or river is a safe place to swim.

Visit http://www.deq.state.mi.us/beach , which provides an interactive map showing public and private swimming areas that have been closed or slapped with a water advisory.

The state monitors 1,175 public beaches and 471 private beaches. Seven of them are in the tri-county area and include Burchfield Pond in Burchfield Park in Delhi Township and Lake Ovid at Sleepy Hollow State Park Beach in Clinton County.

While the state site doesn't list test results, the Ingham County Health Department site does.

Go to http://hd.ingham.org and click on 'Environmental Health' in the menu to the left. Scroll down to Water Quality and click on Community Surface Water Sampling.

Neither Eaton nor Clinton counties post sample results online.
