The holiday shopping season is here and eReaders and tablets are poised to be the hot items of the season.
To help you navigate through all of the devices out there, we have compiled a Holiday Gift Guide To eReaders featuring the latest eReaders on the market. The below list includes eReaders that have come out over the last year and will be hot this season:
-Kindle Wi-Fi $139, Wi-Fi enabled, black-and-white eInk eReader with a 6-inch screen tied the Amazon bookstore
-Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi $189, 3G and Wi-Fi enabled, black-and-white eInk eReader with a 6-inch screen tied to the Amazon bookstore
-iPad $499 and up or $629 and up with 3G, Wi-Fi enabled tablet with a 9.7 inch screen. Supports almost every eReader app and eBookstore app under the sun with the ability to read multiple formats. It also includes lots of cool tablet features like apps, video streaming and audio.
-Nook Color $249, Wi-Fi enabled color screen eReader, tied to the Barnes & Noble bookstore, but supports multiple formats including apps coming soon. The Android-based device has a very nice color resolution and specializes in the experiences of children’s books and magazines. It has video and audio functionality with some limitations.
-Nook $149 or $199 with 3G, Wi-Fi enabled, black-and-white eInk eReader with a 6-inch screen, tied to the Barnes & Noble bookstore, but supports multiple formats
-Sony PRS 350 $149, Black-and-white eInk eReader with a 5-inch screen, supports open formats
-Kobo Wireless $139, Wi-Fi enabled, black-and-white eInk eReader with a 6-inch screen, supports open formats including library books
-Aluratek Libre eBook Reader PRO $119 (but on sale for $99 at Borders), Reflective light LCD black-and-white 5-inch screen, the eReader is not Wi-Fi enabled, but syncs with a MAC or a PC. It supports multiple formats but is optimized to shop in the Borders store.
-Dell Streak $299, Wi-Fi enabled tablet/phone with a 5-inch color touch screen. The Android-based table supports multiple eBook formats and eReader apps and includes video and audio functionality.
-Velocity Cruz eReader $199 (pictured left), Wi-Fi enabled eReader tablet with a 7-inch screen color touchscreen. The eReader supports PDF, TXT and HTML reader files, and includes video and audio functionality.
-Velocity Cruz Tablet $299 (with a 2-year contract), Wi-Fi enabled tablet computer with a 7-inch screen color touchscreen. This Android-based tablet supports multiple eReader apps and includes some video and audio functionality.
-Samsung Galaxy Tab $399 (with a 2-year contract), 3G and Wi-Fi enabled tablet computer with a 7-inch color touchscreen. The Android-based tablet supports multiple eReader apps including the Kobo app and includes video and audio functionality.
-The Book by Augen $100, Wi-Fi enabled eReader with a 7-inch color screen. The eReader comes with with a text-to-speech functionality and supports multiple eBook formats including “Open Source” content. It also has some audio and video functionality.
-Pandigital Novel $199, Wi-Fi enabled eReader with a new kind of color ePaper display that includes touch. It has a 7-inch screen and comes integrated with the Barnes & Noble eBookstore and supports ePUB and PDF files.
-Bookeen’s Cybook Opus $189, Wi-Fi enabled, black-and-white eInk eReader with a 5-inch screen that supports multiple eBook formats
-Ectaco jetBook Mini $99, Light-weight, black-and-white LCD eReader with a 5-inch screen that supports multiple eBook formats
