Book reviews from participants Aug 11:
Blindspot by Jane Kamensky: Slow starting but picks up interest. A love story, that seems historically accurate, showcases the social ills of the colony's early life. America's 'Founding Fathers' are shown in a not-very-flattering light.
Under the Dome by Stephen King: I usually don't read Stephen King but my brother recommended it. I am glad he did, what a great story, very emotional, you feel like you're part of the story. Everyone shoudl read it.
Reckoning by Beverly Lewis: A very good story with a happy ending. The Reckoning is the last book in this series. I enjoyed it. I couldn't wait to get to the end to see what was going to happen. Beverly Lewis is an amazing author. Her writing makes you feel like you are right there with the characters.
Pacific Northwest Trips edited by Lonely Planet: '52 of the Region's Best Trips!' Wonderful collection of tour itineraries to appeal to any and every traveler!
Magic Barrel by Bernard Malamud: What a great author. He's one of my favorites. He gives the reader a realistic feel for his subjects.

The stories are set in New York and in Italy (where Malamud's alter ego, the struggleing New York Jewish Painter Arthur Fidelman, roams amid the ruins of old Europe in search of his artistic patrimony); they tell of egg candlers and shoemakers, matchmakers, and rabbis, in a voice that blends vigorous urban realism, Yiddish idiom, and a dash of artistic magic.
