WWII In their own words
6:00 PM, Thursday, September 27
“Larry Martin's World War II - In Their Own Words”is based on one man's firm dedication to bringing the stories of WWII to as many people as possible. The goal is to share with the world exactly what the heroes who fought for our freedom during the Second World War did, and to pay them tribute while educating everyone on the facts and the significance of this tragic and important event in our nation's history.

Mr. Martin will be speaking specifically about Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson, United States Army Air Corps. He was a Tuskegee Airman who flew 18 combat missions aboard the P-51 which was one of our finest fighter planes. He flew with the 15th Air Force out of Foggia Italy in 1944. He was shot down August 12th 1944 over Toulon France. He was put in Stalag Luft 3 (which was the same prison that the 1963 movie the Great Escape was set in.) He was in a force march out of Poland back into Germany ahead of the Russian Army. Upon arriving in the Munich area he was freed by Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army. He went to Dachau Death Camp because it was near and he had never heard of it, where he saw thousands of dead people. Mr. Martin will be able to answer questions on other WWII topics as well. His website is http://lmww2.com.

It Was The Summer That Would Change Their Lives Forever.
Every summer the Newton family retreats to their beloved home on Nantucket for three months of sunshine, cookouts, and bonfires on the beach. But this summer will not be like any other. When Arch Newton, a prominent New York attorney, dies in a plane crash on his way home from a business trip, his beautiful widow Beth can barely keep things together. Above all, though, she decides that she must continue the family tradition of going to Nantucket, and at the same time fulfill a promise that Arch made before he died.
Beth invites Marcus, the son of Arch's final and most challenging client, to spend the summer with her and her teenage twins Winnie and Garrett, who have mixed reactions to sharing their special summer place with this stranger. Always a place of peace before, Nantucket becomes the scene of roiling emotions and turbulent passions as Marcus, Winnie, and Garrett learn about loss, first love, and betrayal. And when they stumble upon a shocking secret from Beth's past, they must keep it from destroying the family they've been trying so hard to heal.
""Summer People" is striking not only for the ingenuity of its riveting plot, but also for the acute sense of character and the finely tuned craftsmanship with which Elin Hilderbrand brings its every nuance to life." --Madison Smart Bell, author of "Anything Goes"

""You done lived a tough life, boy, and I know I'm part responsible for that. I ain't askin' you to excuse me or forgive me. Just know I did the best I knew to do. I was just tryin' to make you tough enough to deal with the world. To stand tall among men, I knew you had to be strong and have yo' own mind."
"You were preparing me for war, Grandfather."

Guy Johnson, the author of the critically acclaimed debut "Standing at the Scratch Line, continues the Tremain family saga.
Jackson St. Clair Tremain hasn't spoken to his grandfather King in nearly twenty years. Disgusted by the violence and bloodlust that seemed to be his grandfather's way of life, Jackson chose to distance himself from King and live a simpler life. But now King is gravely ill, and his impending death places Jackson's life--as well as those of his family and friends--in jeopardy. Reluctantly, Jackson travels to Mexico to see King. But after a brief reconciliation, his grandfather is assassinated, and Jackson suspects that his grandmother Serena may have had a hand in it. Jackson takes control of King's organization, and as he does, he reflects on the summers he spent in Mexico as a child and the lessons he learned there at the knee of his strong-willed, complex grandfather.
In "Echoes of a Distant Summer, Guy Johnson introduces us to a new hero, Jackson St. Clair Tremain, who learns that, like his grandfather, he must be willing to protect those he loves--at all costs.
