The Snow Queen was here!

The Snow Queen was here at Hackley Library!

She met with many princes and princesses, read us a story, and shared a song! We enjoyed making a magical wand, as well as a snowflake ornament.
The Snow Queen even got the chance to wander around our historic gem after meeting with everyone, enjoying the glass floor and catching a few minutes of a great book. :)

We hope you all had fun meeting the Snow Queen, thank you to everyone who made this a special afternoon!

HPL's mosaic entry floor is complete!

Restoration was underway at Hackley Library, and the main entry floor has been completed!

This marble mosaic tile floor has been at Hackley Library since it first opened in 1890.
Parts of our floor had needed repairing, and the fantastic Marion Restoration company did a great job in making new tiles blend nicely with the original tiles.  Approximately 80% of our original tiles are still in tact, whereas about 20% are new tiles.
Take a peek at the pictures below to revisit the restoration process, beginning with prep work and continuing to the beautifully finished product.
Stop by HPL and see this beauty in person!

Mosaic tile restoration at Hackley Public Library

The marble, mosaic tiles in the main entry of Hackley Public Library are original to when the library first opened in 1890! Unfortunately some of the tile work had been damaged through the years, though much of the original tile work remains intact.
In an effort to preserve the existing original tile work, as well as restore the floor to its original beauty, restoration has begun!
Fortunately, approximately 80% of the original tile work will remain in place and in good condition, while approx. 20% of the tile work will be newly put in, made to match with the original concept.

Marion Restoration, a company based from Chicago, has been working efficiently to ensure our mosaic floor at HPL is restored properly. Pictured above, and below with the next four photos, shows preparation work being done.

The two photos below show some of the tile work that has been put in, showcasing vibrant colors and shapes.

Interested in seeing the progress of the tile work? Stop by Hackley Public Library, and as you exit the elevator, take a glance through the interior door window!
