Grace and Grit
11:00 am, Saturday, July 21
Bill Murphy, author of Grace and Grits, will talk about his book during Bike Time! He will also have copies of his books to sell.
From 1910-1916, women adventurers such as Effie and Avis Hotchkiss, Della Crewe, Augusta and Adeline Van Buren, Blanche Stuart Scott would not let societal expectations deter them from pursuing and achieving their dreams.

By car, plane and motorcycle, they did what few others dared and accomplished feats worthy of storytelling a century later. In a world where large portions of the planet were still unexplored and even the settled places were rural and undeveloped, it was an especially remarkable period of history for young women who could lay claim to be the first to accomplish exploratory feats difficult enough for men and history making for women.

Grace and Grit is the first book to tell the stories of several amazing women in the detail necessary to truly appreciate their deeds. Grace and Grit will appeal to anyone who still dreams of conquering a new frontier, as well as enthusiasts of women's history, motorcycles and the development of America's highways.

Bill Sterner of Rider Magazine comments, "This well-researched and engaging book... offers an inspirational story of what these riders accomplished with their epic cross-country motorcycle trips nearly a century ago..."
