Fantasy is one of my favorite genres and YA Fantasy is often quite
good. I have read the the first two of Ransom Rigg's books: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City, so I was very excited when the third and final book, The Library of Souls finally came out. The author based his books on some unusual antique photos he found. They were of children and adults who were in poses that were not neccessarily physically possible. He created a group of people, "peculiars", who fit the descriptions implied in the pictures. In his world, these people are hunted so they have found a way to create time loops in which to live. Unfortunately, at the end of the first book the hunters have found a way to invade the loops. Jacob had witnessed his grandfather's death, gone through some of his papers, and found a reference to an island off Great Britain. He convinced his father to take him there. While there he found the peculiar people and learned he was one of them. In the next book, Jacob and his friends are searching for Miss Peregrine, who was kidnapped. In the third book, Jacob and his friends must rescue Miss Peregrine and the others of her kind and fight for the peculiar people's future. It is a well told, suspenseful story, full of bravery and treachery, with a little bit of love thrown in for good measure. I highly recommend this series for fantasy lovers. Riggs has created a unique world in these books. |
