DRAWING DROIDS

JANUARY 27, SATURDAY, 2:00

Professional illustrator Corine Roberts is coming to the library to share her love of drawing and teach us how to draw our favorite Star Wars characters! This program works best for children 6 years old and up. Adults should plan to stay if bringing younger children.


WordComputer Class-Word

De'ondra Pentecost will teach computer classes on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. Registration is required. Call HPL at 231-722-8000 or visit HPL Events to register.   Registeration opens one month before the class date.  Brought to you through the generosity of the Friends of Hackley Library.
Word:  Learn the basics of word processing, including opening and saving a document, entering text and making changes.  

GIRLS WHO CODE

JANUARY 29, MONDAY, 5:30-6:30

Hackley Public Library is excited to launch a coding club just for girls! We are an official host site for the international Girls Who Code organization. The club is open to students grade 6 and up. In the club, girls will master the basics of coding like loops, variables, functions, and conditionals to name a few.

We will meet every Monday evening starting in January through the end of May.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH INSPIRATION CHOIR AND VICTORY IN PRAISE CHOIR

JANUARY 30, TUESDAY, 6:00

Come out to hear some of the best Inspirational/Gospel singing along the Lakeshore. The Holy Trinity Choir, led by Michelle Harris, will grace the Hackley Library stage. Joining them on the program will be Brandon Davis and the Victory in Praise Choir, a community choir comprised of Christians from various denominations from the greater West Michigan area. The choirs will perform individually and together for a truly great evening of vocal music. You won't want to miss this! Brought to the community through a generous bequest from Bess Commodore. BLACK HISTORY TRIVIA CONTEST

FEBRUARY 3, SATURDAY, 2:00

So you think you know your Black History? Form a group with your friends--up to 4 per team, 6 teams total--and show your knowledge, competing against other teams.  The most fun you can have with history is back with Mickey Wallace leading the way. Kids compete right along side adults in this game of history and knowledge.

We'll have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, and some consolation prizes. Cheer on your friends and family!

Join the fun!  Our craft club meets the first Monday of each month.  Participants will be able to request the crafts that will be offered during the year.  Led by Nancy Hartman.

Century Club

Friday, February 9 from 5:00 to 8:00:  Presale party with wine and chocolate.  $10 donation.  


The Annual Bling Thing returns this February.  This is always a fun event and a chance to get yourself some new bling!
Donations of costume, vintage or other jewelry accepted at the Hackley Public Library any time.  We also other "sparkly" things such as scarves, purses and hats.
All the money raised goes to support adult and childrens programs at HPL.

THIRD ANNUAL SWEET SOUL FOOD DESSERT CONTEST

FEBRUARY 10, SATURDAY, 2:00

Get your recipes out and find your best soul food dessert. Compete for the best in the city. Bring enough for judges and the attendees to taste. We'll have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place judged by executive chef Megan Gorsticki, plus a People's Choice Award.

Do you know grandma's secret recipes? Are they the best you ever had? Then hurry and enter the Hackley Public Library's Black History Dessert Contest where adults and children can enter for a chance to win extraordinary prizes. Get out your recipe files!
