Summer Reading Opening Day
All Day, June 11 Why let kids have all the fun? Join the Adult Summer Reading Program at Hackley Public Library. For each book you read (or listen to: audio books count too!) you can put your name into a drawing. How does it work?
1. Sign up for the program at the Circulation Desk starting on Monday, June 18. The first 300 who sign up get a special gift.
2. Read or listen to a book (or two or three!) from the Library. The
books must be library books, and should be young adult or adult titles.
Magazines and children’s books don’t count.
3. Fill out a form for each book, including the prize number, and drop it in the drawing jar.
5. At the end of August we will draw names for each prize, and from all the entries for a grand prize.
Optional: You may write a short review of the book you read that we
will post on our blog. We will not include your name with the book
review.
No reading logs, no minimum number of books to read. Read what you want and as often as you want. The more you read, the better your chances of winning! |

Pals Forever
6:00 pm, Tuesday, June 12: Pals Forever-Memoirs of a Labrador in his own words Richard L. Hamilton, author of Pals Forever and his grandson Sean, illustrator of Pals Forever, will be at HPL to talk about their book. Sean is a resident of Jenison. You talk to your dog, and most of the time it responds with obedience or with curious gestures when it does not understand you. Your dog is there by your side when you need somebody to listen. Oh, if your dog could only talk to you. InPals Forever, here is a black Labrador that does talk to you. You are fortunate if at some point in your life you have a pet that you can call your friend, and doubly fortunate if the pet can call you a friend. “Spadie Boy” was that kind of dog. InPals Forever, he tells his story in his own words. Perhaps his recollections will cause you to reflect on the fond memories of your dog, or of a dog that was once your best friend, and to reflect on those long ago memories of you being his best friend. Join a black Labrador on his journey, and be reminded of the simple pleasures of raking leaves, only to play in the pile, and taking long walks just to see what might be stirring in the woods, or hunting upland game birds on a colorful warm autumn day. If you are not already convinced that having a dog will make you a better person, Spade will convince you.” Richard and Sean will have books available for purchase and signing after the book talk. |
