Library Day in the Life Friday

The Library Day in the Life Project is a semi-annual event coordinated by Bobbi Newman  of Librarian by Day. I work as a Reference Librarian at Hackley Public Library.  Among my duties are buying fiction and nonfiction (000's, 200's, 400's, 500's, 800's, and 900's) for the library; weeding the same group; Government Documents; Adult program planning; maintaining the Library's website; keeping up with Social Media; running the Adult Summer Reading Program; and, as they say, other duties as assigned.  My days, to say the least, are not dull.

Here's a breakdown of how my day was spent on Friday:

8:30 am Turned on computer, talked to co-workers, returned books

9:00 am Tackled desk-filed papers, sorted stuff into to-do today and do another day, checked to-do list, organized work for the day


9:40 am checked my email, nothing pressing so I'll read it later.  Posted Wednesday and Thursday day in the life, took pictures of circ area, posted upcoming events to blog, Posted LDITL to G+ and my linked in account.


10:40 am updated social media


10:50 am ref email and blog

10:55 short break


11:00 picture of main reading room, and computers, continued with ref blog


11:12 updated bookletters calendar with March to May events


11:40  Finished updated bookletters with new events, started on recurring events


12:00 pm picture of main floor, then lunch


1:00 pm Reference:  Picture of main floor, looked up book location, ref email and blog, gave out tax forms, added people to the event database that we also use for addresses for the newsletter
   Tel:  put DVD on hold
Someone came in to get a broken picture frame, he's doing some other work so asked if I would help him match Pantene colors to our walls.
Copy machine questions, reset a patron's pin, gave out office supplies, guest pass, added emails to bookletters


2:00 pm Picture, continued with long term events
    Tel:  looked up church phone number
Computer sign in help, GED book
    Tel:  Roman Jewelry contact info
Found book on shelf for patron, found books on the eye, gave out tax forms


2:45 pm Finished bookletters calendar!  Checked email, gave out guest pass, tax forms


3:00 pm Picture, then break


3:30 pm Back to email, blogs
   Tel:  do we have animusic (no)
Downloaded pictures


4:20 pm Uploaded pictures to our Library Day in the Life set on Flickr, read professional journal, checked best seller list against holdings, found GED book for patron, worked on this post, uploaded more pictures.


5:00 pm Library closes.
